Why Chemical Engineering and Technology?
2 moles of Passion + 3 moles of Curiosity + 2 moles of Learning and collaboration → 1 mole of Sustainability.
When I learned about the UN’s SDGs in 8th grade, turning off lights, using a bucket instead of a shower, and encouraging my family to follow sustainable practices became my everyday tasks. In 11th grade, I learned about the fatal nature of microplastics in a chemistry class. This experience encouraged me to write a research article combining my lived experiences with the worldwide findings on microplastics' catastrophic nature and the various ways the youth is and can tackle this challenge. Moreover, to explore new renewable energy sources, I led a project using piezoelectric crystals as an external energy source to help visually impaired people detect obstacles.
These and many more experiences have helped me understand the need for innovation for a sustainable future. The interdisciplinary knowledge that I will obtain through pursuing Chemical Engineering and Technology will equip me with the ability to work on tangible sustainable solutions, specifically on ideas like plant-based biodegradable aternatives to plastic, highly efficient and sustainable nuclear fission reactors, potential integration of piezoelectricity with automation in multiple sectors, building a robot to clean the marine ecosystem, designing effective renewable energy systemsand much more. Through Chemical Engineering, I will get a chance to integrate a sustainable aspect with the everyday lifestyle of people and contribute to global sustainability.
Why Zhejiang University of Technology?
I was introduced to research about 2 years ago, and since then, I have been able to learn a lot of new and unique concepts and ideas that were never taught in school. Whether a discovery or current environmental adversities. I am aware of the importance of research and have also been working on a research paper on the effects of microplastics on the human endocrine system, however, I was unable to move further with the experiments due to the lack of equipment and proper guidance. With Zhejiang University of Technology’s strong emphasis on research, I firmly believe that I will be able to get many opportunities to collaborate with my peers on exciting research projects. Through research, I want to learn and work on the groundbreaking integration of Chemical Engineering and sustainable energy systems.
My major passion, alongside Chemical Engineering, has been entrepreneurship. I have had the opportunity to attend the LaunchX Entrepreneurship Program and learn more about entrepreneurship by launching Scholuim, a platform for specially-abled toddlers. The well-established entrepreneurial network and environment at the Zhejiang University of Technology will help me turn my ideas into tangible products and services to create a positive impact on society.
I have been very passionate about sustainability and always wanted to pursue my higher studies somewhere the whole community cares about sustainability. With Zhejiang University of Technology’s strong commitment to research ideas like clean energy technologies for biofuels and sustainable energy systems, I feel my belongingness here.
Along with these reasons, with Zhejiang University of Technology's focus on sports along with academics, I will also be able to continue playing lawn tennis professionally. I have been playing lawn tennis for the past 11 years and have qualified 3 times for the nationals, along with winning the state championship. I want to improve more and represent Zhejiang University of Technology at national and international levels. At Zhejiang University of Technology, I believe I can transform and grow in every aspect, whether academic, sports, entrepreneurial, or social.- 1 Year ago
